Toshiba 3D Glasses
Explanation of the industrial design for Toshiba 3D glasses by Giles Mitchell and Takeshi Suzuki
Toshiba 3D glasses are for watching content on 3D TVs. There is an IR sensor located in the nose bridge that communicates with the television for shuttering of the lenses.
The lenses must be flat for technical reasons and also the glasses must be able to fit over the user’s existing eyewear. This issue inspired the semi open frame design which gave an overall less boxy feel compared to what existed on the market previously.
It was necessary to 3D print multiple iterations in order to balance ergonomics and style.
