Wacom Intuos (2015)
Explanation of the industrial design for Wacom Intuos 2015 by Giles Mitchell.
Intuos is a beginner pen tablet for creative enthusiasts.
At the top of the tablet are 4 programmable express keys used for shortcuts like undo etc, they are tilted at an angle so that the non writing hand can comfortably rest two fingers on top of the keys at the most comfortable elbow position.
The business strategy was to attract younger creatives. Our previous model was well appreciated but had a more formal business-like aesthetic that was suited to older professionals and not really connecting with the intended audience. I came up with this iconic design with a bold fresh new look.
The logo marking method was inspired by a fluid fill process used on cameras called “inking”. It is usually to mark F stop numbers or logos on a camera body in a way that is highly durable. It gives a lovely liquid-like surface tension to the logo.
Mint blue was the hero colour way.
Spare nibs, a nib remover tool and space for an optional wireless module are all hidden under the hood. Helpful hints are engraved to guide the user.
