Wacom Finetip Pen
Explanation of the industrial design for Wacom Finetip Pen by Giles Mitchell.
The finetip pen uses real ink on any kind of paper but the EMR coil is able to record every stroke and therefore wirelessly sync or even playback live on digital devices such as phones and tablets. The cone area is using a smoky semi translucent material that gives a subtle glimpse of the “magic” technology inside.

Somehow we blurred the boundary between analogue and digital with this unique product. It was important to keep a feeling of familiarity so that people did not feel alienated or intimidated by the technology. The design is therefore deliberately inspired by traditional fineline pens used by artists and illustrators.
